What is appeal?

The Criminal Procedure Code does not provide a specific definition of appeal, but various reviews say: The Calcutta High Court said about an appeal in a case:- An appeal is an application to a higher court by a party aggrieved against the judgment of a lower court for modification or annulment of the said judgment. According to the definition of Oxford dictionary:- An appeal is the transfer of a case from a lower court to a higher court to set aside or modify the decision of a lower court. 

Who can file an appeal?

A party who is aggrieved or is not satisfied by the judgment or order of any court, can file an appeal in the High Court if there is specific provision in the law. Appeals are to be filed in the form of a memorandum or petition. A copy of the judgment or order appealed against must be attached to the appeal.
