Most of the important Muslim family provisions under the family law of Bangladesh are governed by the Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961 (Muslim Family Law Ordinance). But in the case of marriage, according to the laws of Bangladesh, the provisions of the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act, 1974. The Prevention of Child Marriage Act 1929 states that the age of the groom must be 21 years and the age of the bride must be 18 years. Just as both parties have to be adults and of sound mind to enter into any contract in society, similarly both parties have to be of adult and sound mind to enter into a marriage contract.
